WELCOME TO MISSION HILLS

Mission Hills is an upscale San Diego neighborhood with a rich history and breathtaking views over the city’s Old Town and the San Diego Bay. Much of Mission Hills’ real estate was constructed between 1908 and 1930 following George Marston’s masterplan. Marston was a prominent local businessman and politician affectionately known as “San Diego’s First Citizen,” and he envisioned Mission Hills as an eclectic enclave of luxury housing that would perfectly complement its stunning elevated views. While predominantly residential, Mission Hills is also home to numerous boutique shops and trendy restaurants.

Mission Hills’ historic real estate encompasses Craftsman, Prarie School, Spanish Colonial Revival, and vernacular styles, among others. There are also masterfully-designed Mid-Century homes from famed architects such as William Hebbard and John Lloyd Wright. More than 320 properties are designated historic places, with the neighborhood containing two distinct historic districts.

Mission Hills’ vibrant restaurant scene includes some of San Diego’s finest restaurants. Opened in 2019 by multi-award-winning restauranteurs Brad Wise and Steve Schwob, Fort Oak offers wood-fired oysters, delectable entrees, shared plates, and a full bar with gourmet pub fare. The Patio on Goldfinch prepares delicious New American cuisine with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients in an open-air setting. There’s chic farm-to-table dining at Farmer’s Bottega and a diverse menu of seafood and sublime American-style meat dishes at neighborhood favorite Harley Gray Kitchen & Bar.

Retail options include stylish fashion boutiques such as Le Bel Age and uniquely-curated stores like Maison en Provence. For drinks, head to craft breweries Toma Sol Tavern, Thorn Street Brewery, and Latchkey Brewing Company.

Pioneer Park provides a tree-shaded neighborhood green space and hosts events such as free Concerts in the Park every Friday throughout the summer. The Mission Hills Farmers Market also takes place each Friday, with fresh produce from 20 vendors. A unique Mission Hills green space is Edna Harper’s Topiary Garden, where Harper has spent years cultivating ornate shrubbery into pyramids, animals, and more than 50 other living art pieces.
